Genie's Handcrafted Treasures was opened in Waterbury, Vermont in 1985. Always specializing in quality handcrafted items, Genie's has morphed through the years. The Web has offered Genie's the opportunity to do wonderful things around the world. Traveling to Southeast Asia, we meet the artisans who make many of the things we carry in our web store. They are ordinary village people trying to make a meager living. Their lives are simple and their hearts are huge.
Fair wages are important, and a fair wage in Southeast Asia is lower than many other parts of the world. But the craftsmanship that comes out of these cottage industries is full of pride. Having been individually made, each is a piece of art formed in the imagination of the artisan whose hands created it. Some of these pieces, because of their quality and their uniqueness, will hold their overall value for generations to come. Many of the artisans we purchase from are part of co-ops that will benefit target groups, others are individuals or family groups.
Genie's Handcrafted Artisanware has partnered with Portraits for CharityTM to raise funds to bring educational writing and art workshops to schools in Vermont and in disadvantaged areas throughout the world. Mission Statement
It is our mission to bring quality, handcrafted artisanware to you. Some items are totally unique (one of a kind), some are made in very small batches, most you will not see anywhere but on this web site and then in your own home. We ship within days, insuring each package and getting it to you as quickly as we can. We pride ourselves in our customer service, and want very much to create a relationship with you, our customer, that will last for years to come. Each time you visit our website we hope to have things you have not yet seen.
Of particular interest is the designer jewelry that is made from pure .999 silver brought from hill tribes of Thailand. Our designer creates pieces of jewelry around the silver, and believe us, it is stunning.
